Now that my fireplace was relatively clean i was ready to paint. Then crack a window. Two thin coats of the spray paint will more than cover the fireplace brass. Grate paint comes in a variety of colors from reds to blues to the standard black.

Any gaps in the paper will get spray paint in it so take your time on this step. Don t be afraid to try adding a touch of color to your fireplace by coloring your grate. Use either a spray applicator or a brush to apply the paint. It will take you less than 1 minute for each coat.

Scrape any ash on the walls of the firebox vacuum and then use damp old rags to wipe down the interior of the box. Do not over apply as this may lead to runs and brushstrokes in the final finish. I taped off the carpet around the hearth and poured a small amount of white chalk paint into a solo cup. Apply a metal primer on bare iron to avoid rust coming through the finishing coats.
