Store the firewood for your fireplace in one of these diy firewood racks. Actually it s not great. I did have to run the wood through my table saw to thin it out just a hair so that it was the same thickness as the tile. The pvc pipe sticking out to the left houses all our tv cords.

Cut out wood to extend the fireplace hearth. It was basically a big box with studs every 16 inches on center. So once the fireplace was framed out and the built in cabinetry installed we had two feet of drywall on the left side of the windows and about 6 visible on the right. This is also a budget project that you can do for just 50 and in a few hours time.

In the first house the plans didn t account for the depth of the fireplace or built ins on the fireplace wall. Mark the dimensions of the fireplace against the wall and the footprint of the fireplace on the floor using painter s tape. I used 1 x 4 pine wood around the tile and mitered it in the corners.
